Just about my favorite thing to do when the weather turns cooler is pull out my favorite jeans, sweaters and scarves.  They are sooooooooo cozy.  Are you with me? 🍁☀️😊

At last year’s CGOA conference, I got a swag bag that included samples of “Jeans”, an acrylic yarn by Lion Brand.  I had been wanting to try it for some time so I was thrilled to get some straight from the source.  I instantly fell in love with it because it’s so soft, easy to work with and, yes, the colors remind me of those favorite jeans of mine.

Design + Construction

This cozy scarf is a gently sloping triangle that keeps it casual but adds a bit of interest to an otherwise standard rectangular scarf. This pattern is ideal for crocheters of all skill levels who want an easy, stylish accessory that works up quickly.  Worked entirely in half double crochet, the gentle slope of the triangle is created with a series of decreases and increases along one edge.  Optional tassels or pompoms add a special touch and help to keep the scarf anchored around the neck.

About the Yarn

Lion Brand has winner on its hands with “Jeans”.  The soft acrylic yarn is a light worsted weight with excellent drape and just enough warmth for a cool autumn day.  It feels oh so comfy against the skin!  It’s easy to work with, easy to care for (machine wash and dry), and is available in 7 colors.  I chose Classic to match the color of a standard pair of jeans.

Update!!!

I’ve made this scarf several times since designing it and it’s become one of my favorite go-to projects because of its ease and quick construction.  The basic design lends itself well to the addition of pompoms or tassels.  The qualities of the yarn you choose and the border construction can change the appearance of the scarf completely meaning you can use it over and over again and no one will be the wiser.

Recently I made the scarf with Miss Babs “Kaweah” DK weight yarn in the color “Gotta Love Me”. It took 3 hanks to complete the scarf with a pompom border.  I revised the instructions created by Once Upon a Moon by adding a chain to each side of the pompoms because I wanted the pompoms to be farther apart along the edge.

Here’s a version I made with Dragonfly Fiber’s “Traveller” in Purple Haze… I added my own fur pompoms to give a bit of elegance.
