Granny Square Scrap-ghan Crochet Pattern

Granny Square Scrap-ghan | Crochet Pattern by MadameStitch

If you work with yarn as much as I do, you most likely have a stash of yarn left over from other projects.  This Granny Square Scrap-ghan is the perfect project to use up some of those scraps.  With just a small purchase of additional yarn to fill out the color scheme, the afghan is inexpensive to make.  Plus, while you’re working all of the granny squares, you can take it along wherever you happen to be.

Yarn

For this granny square afghan, I chose Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn because I work with it a lot and had a bunch of available colors.  I filled in with the variegated yarns, and I purchased 3 skeins of antique white as the main color.  You can use any worsted weight yarn you like.  In fact, you could mix brands for an interesting texture.

Materials + Tools

Hook:  US size H-8; also have a tapestry needle (for weaving in ends) and a pair of scissors handy.

About the Afghan

This pattern is appropriate for beginner crocheters with some knowledge of basic crochet stitches.

The 72 5-round traditional granny squares are joined as you go using the slip stitch method, so no seams to sew!  The blanket edging is simple to finish – 4 rounds of single crochet (I used various colors) followed by a final round of shell stitch.
