The Collaborative CAL has now ended which means the individual squares are no longer available as free PDF downloads. However, each square is still available free on the designer’s blog. Plus the pattern bundle can be purchased. It includes all 16 square patterns and instructions for the fun pompon border.

August 15 is Granny Square Day, one of my favorite days of the year. Imagine my excitement as I get to collaborate with some of my favorite designer friends to put a special spin on my beloved granny square with a beautiful granny square blanket!

E’Claire Makery and MadameStitch have teamed up to bring you 16 fabulous squares designed by some top crochet designers.

This Granny Square Collaborative CAL is a bit different. Each day between August 8th and 23rd, a new square will be released. If you have your yarn all ready to go, you can certainly make a square a day. However, this CAL is also a blog hop so you’ll have the opportunity to visit each designer’s website on her feature day.

About the granny square blanket

The CAL includes 16 squares, all with some feature of a granny square. It might be the granny stitch, the square itself, or a variation of the stitch. Some of the squares have exquisite texture. Some play with color. And, some are close cousins of the traditional granny square.

The styles you’ll see are as diverse and imaginative as the designers who created them.

All of the squares are made with worsted weight yarn. The amount of yarn needed, the colors used and the hook size are specified in each designer’s pattern. The squares all measure 8” across, perfect for assembling them into the Friends with Granny square blanket.

To make your granny square blanket cohesive, choose a color scheme that suits your taste. For our Friends with Granny blanket, we chose a fall theme – a rich wine, a vibrant gold, pumpkin spice, hunter green, sky blues, and an ivory white to pull it all together. You’ll need about 1100yds to complete the entire blanket (amounts may vary).

How can you get everything for this granny square blanket free?

Below you’ll find a link to the post for each granny square. The squares are free on the blog.

    1. Nina,
I’m sorry you’re having difficulty. I’ve passed your email address on to the designer and hope that she can help you with the square.

Thanks for your interest in this great CAL!

  1. Thank you!! Hate I missed the first one, I was watching for this to start on E’claire’s site but it never showed up yesterday. Glad I found you 🙂

  2. Where is day 3, 10th August.

I have git several emails saying it’s available bit the website is still in 9th Augus.

    Please help.

  3. i’ve been following, alto i doubt that i will be able to make any, maybe some day.
my real comment: why do you make it so difficult for people to follow this cal? if you do it because the extra ads related? it’s a sad way to increase your blog posts or get people to pay for a “free” pattern, for a missed day. i’m just wondering, i would be ashamed, if i hosted this “free” cal. some people, like me 77yrs & still learning can’t afford to pay for anything during this health problem we are all living with. i don’t plan to make this blanket but i’m figuring a how to with the different patterns & pictures. i envy people with this talent to make the squares, and put them all together – i made a huge mistake to learn from my mother, when she offered to learn how, i was 12 @ the time. she made with the real thin strings & hooks. i regret this almost daily while struggling with the ways & beautiful outcomes others seem to do with ease. i’m still trying – my 3 cats will end up with colorful beds – they don’t know i messed up.

    1. Janet,
It certainly isn’t my intention (or any other designer’s) to make these events difficult.

The ads you see on the post and throughout my website earn me income, making it possible for me to offer the free patterns that I do. If I eliminated those ads, or took out the steps included in this CAL, I would have to charge for everything I design and release. Free patterns would no longer be available to you or any of my other customers. I don’t want that for you.

I do hope you’ll continue to support the CAL. The squares are beautiful and well worth any extra steps you may have to go through to get them.

      Best,
      Debbie

  4. I have been trying to download this square all day, and a message keeps popping up that says the coupon code “crossbody22” is no longer valid. It does not give me an opportunity to insert the correct coupon code for this square. This happened yesterday, but I finally managed to find a way to get the correct screen. Please check this out.

    1. Barbara,
I’m sorry you’ve been having trouble with the code. But, you’re trying to use the wrong code.

Find today’s square above. The promo code is listed right next to the picture. I’ve checked and the code is working in Ravelry.
