The frilly crochet coaster puts the fun on your table
The Frilly Crochet Coaster takes the plain coaster and turns it into something fun. The pattern is free on the blog.
Coasters are an essential item in your home decor if you drink beverages in any room other than the kitchen like I do. I have coasters all over my house because we take our tea and coffee with us wherever we go around the house.
The Frilly crochet coaster is just a really fun coaster. You can dress it up or down based on the look you want to coordinate with your room’s decor.
This frilly crochet coaster is so easy to make you can crochet one in an evening. It makes a wonderful gift any time of the year and works both inside your home and on the patio.
Design + Construction of the frilly crochet coaster
Each year we exchange Christmas gifts with our best friends. We go wine-tasting with them once a year so the gift is usually wine themed.
This year I decided to make something decorative to put under a wine bottle. My husband got some lights to put in the wine bottle and I whipped up this frilly crochet coaster to complete the look.
The design for this frilly crochet coaster is pretty simple. The bottom of the coaster is a flat circle crocheted in the continuous spiral method. The ruffle is created with a couple of rows of increases that cause the edges to curl and ripple.
The Frilly crochet Coaster is the perfect project when you need a last minute gift or you’d like to add a touch of pizazz to your own home.

This frilly crochet coaster is the absolute best project for using some yarn from your stash. It takes less than an ounce of yarn.
I chose cotton worsted weight yarn because I wanted something that was absorbent and sturdy. I have a lot of WeCrochet “Dishie” and Paintbox Yarns “Recycled Cotton Worsted” in my stash. I love the vibrant colors they both offer, the durability and easy care they offer.
You can choose any worsted weight yarn for your frilly crochet coaster. When deciding, consider what you’ll be using your coaster for. If it needs to protect your beautiful tabletop, choose something that’s absorbent and sturdy. If it’s simply for decoration, get creative!

Pattern Notes
- The bottom of the coaster is worked in a continuous spiral meaning, after each round, there is no slip st join. Use a removable stitch marker to keep track of the 1st st of the rnd.
- A ch-1 at the beg of a rnd does not count as a st.
- Do not turn after any rnd.
- The right side of the coaster is the one where the sc BLO stitches are visible. That’s the side that should face up when the coaster is in use.
