Picture this: It’s sunset and you’re out for a stroll on the boardwalk. The breeze off the ocean begins to pick up and your stroll gets a little cool. What do you do?

If you’ve ever been out on the boardwalk in the evening, you know it can get cool, even in the summer. When the sun goes down and the breeze blows off the ocean, you may need something to cover your shoulders.

The Boardwalk Wrap is a wide double crochet scarf you can easily wrap around your shoulders when just a bit of coverage is needed to ward off the cooler evening temperatures. It’s a lightweight, stylish alternative to a jacket that looks beautiful for a night out on the boardwalk or a stroll around town.

Design of this double crochet scarf

This double crochet scarf has two sections that combine to evoke images of an Atlantic ocean boardwalk. The granny squares are lines up along the edge and represent the businesses that line the boardwalk. The chain spaces in the double crochet section break up the rows to look like the slats in the boards of the boardwalk. Together they become the Boardwalk Wrap!

Once again, the granny square becomes a featured star in this imaginative design but also a subtle partner to the easy double crochet section, making this an ideal mindful crochet make.

The design of this wide double crochet scarf means it’s an easy wrap to make when you need a stylish alternative to a jacket.

I designed this double crochet scarf to be just a bit wider than a traditional scarf size to provide the coverage you need when the wrap is draped over your shoulders. It’s long enough to throw over one shoulder and add a beautiful shawl pin to hold it in place.

By the way, if you don’t live near the beach or have a trip planned to one, the Boardwalk Wrap is the ideal wide double crochet scarf for an evening out with someone special or out for a bite to eat.

Inspiration + The Yarn

The inspiration for this double crochet scarf came directly from the yarn itself.

I am in love with Shirsty Cat Designs yarn. Kelly is an indie yarn dyer who has some of the most gorgeous, ultra-soft merino wools in her collection. I am especially in love with her DK weight yarn – Just DK. It has enough body to hold its shape without being too heavy.

What makes her yarns so special are the colors she comes up with. When I saw the color “Sea Grass”, I knew right away that I had to get the yarn and design something with a beach theme.

The Boardwalk Wrap double crochet scarf was born. The yarn feels so luxurious to work with, the colors are absolutely gorgeous to look at and the finished object is simply divine! It helps this simple, unique design become the ideal mindful make.

How is this an Autumn accessory?

For one thing, the temperatures in the fall are ever-changing. One day can feel like summer while the very next day can be cool and crisp. Having a wide double crochet scarf handy means you’ll never be chilly.

For another, I can’t think of anything more peaceful than walking along the boardwalk in the fall when most of the crowds are gone. The Boardwalk Wrap is the perfect accessory for those peaceful moments along the beach.

It’s not just for the beach, though. Take your Boardwalk Wrap into town when you out and about on a cool evening. It’s a stylish addition to casual and dressy outfits alike.
