Why make a face scrubbie?

Face scrubbies are quick and fun to crochet. In just a weekend, you can make enough scrubbies to last you a week. They make a wonderful yarn stash busting project because each face scrubbie takes less than a half ounce of worsted weight yarn to make. One skein of yarn makes 3-4 scrubbies!

Design

The bobble stitch creates lofty bumps on the right side of the scrubbie for gentle exfoliating while the wrong side is smoother for that perfect finishing touch. Cotton worsted weight yarn that’s mercerized or anti-pilling is durable and easy care. This scrubbie is called the ‘Double Bobble’ because it has 2 rows of bobble stitch instead of just one.

Double Bobble Face Scrubbie Written Instructions

What you need…

YARN: Any worsted weight mercerized or anti-pilling cotton

Sample: Lily ‘Sugar n Cream’ in Mod Green – 100% cotton (2.5oz/120yed; 71g/109m)

HOOK: US size H-8 (5mm)

Important stuff…

SKILL LEVEL: This pattern is beginner-friendly and is written using US crochet terminology.

SPECIAL STITCH: Bobble (bo): (The bobble is worked from the wrong side and pops out on the right side.) (YO, insert hook in st, YO, pull loop through, YO, draw through 2 loops) 5 times, YO, draw through 6 loops on hook. (This will be followed by a sc to make the bobble ‘pop out’.)

PATTERN NOTES

1. The pattern instructions will indicate whether or not to turn at the end of each rnd. Pay close attention to this instruction because it will affect the outcome.
2. The ‘Ch 3’ at the beginning of a rnd counts as a dc.
3. The ‘Ch 1’ at the beginning of a rnd does not count as a st.

Pattern Instructions

Ch 4.

Rnd 1: 11 dc in 4^th ch from hook, join with slip st to top of beg ch-3, TURN. (12 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 3, * (bo, sc) in the next st, 2 dc in next st; rep from * around, ending with dc in same st as beg ch-3, join with slip st to top of beg ch-3, DO NOT TURN. (12 dc, 6 bo, 6 sc)

Rnd 3: Ch 3, (bo, sc) in next st, * dc in next st, (bo, sc) in next st; rep from * around, join with slip st to top of beg ch-3, TURN. (12 dc, 12 bo, 12 sc)

Rnd 4:  Ch 1, sc in same st and the next st, 2 sc in next st, * sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around, join with slip st to beg st. (48 sc)

Fasten off and securely weave in ends.
