Diamond Corner Granny Baby Blanket
The Diamond Corner Baby Blanket crochet pattern has been updated with more detailed written instructions and a new crochet chart for the diamond pattern. You can find it in all my shops!
The first blanket in our baby blanket series is the Diamond Corner Granny blanket. If you love to make granny squares and you’re looking for a quick project, you’ll love making this beautiful blanket. This one has a twist, though. The outer section of the blanket looks like it has diamonds in the corners!
This blanket was so much fun to make. It’s one of those projects you can pick up and take anywhere with you. The construction isn’t complicated – it’s a big granny square – so it makes the perfect project for when you just need something to keep your hands occupied.
The Diamond Corner Granny Baby Blanket
You’ll want to wrap your precious little bundle in this cozy take on the granny square. The traditional granny square center is followed by a section of solid double crochet with strategic spaces to create an open diamond pattern at the corners. The blanket is finished off with a dainty shell edging. If you have someone other than a wee one in mind, the size of the blanket can be easily adjusted by adding or subtracting rounds from the granny square center.
It’s no secret to anyone who knows me that granny squares are my absolute favorite crochet makes. I won’t go into the specifics right now. However, when I was thinking about what to do with Lion Brand’s wonderful baby yarn, the first thing that came to mind was granny square. I knew individual squares wouldn’t adequately show off the ombré yarn, so I decided to try one large square instead. I love how it turned out!
One thing you should know about making a large granny square, though. When working a larger traditional granny square, like the 22-round center of this blanket, the square itself can slant, making it difficult to achieve a perfect square. (See my recent blog post on “Why do my granny squares slant?” HERE.). So, for this blanket, you will turn at the end of every round until you complete the center granny square. From that point forward, turning every round doesn’t affect the slant at all.
