Nothing shows love quite like a crocheted heart. Why not give your beauty routine or that of someone special a lift with a C2C heart washcloth?
Washcloths are a quick and easy way to add some luxury to an otherwise boring beauty routine. And, the From the Heart washcloth is no exception.
Design + Construction of this C2C heart washcloth
C2C or corner to corner is a common crochet technique used to create colorful designs, usually worked from graphs.
If you’ve never worked corner to corner crochet, this C2C heart washcloth is a great project to practice with. It has a handful of color changes and doesn’t require more than one extra bobbin of yarn.
Just a note: This C2C heart washcloth is most appropriate for light scrubbing or simply decorating the bathroom for the holiday. Because of the corner to corner construction, the washcloth shouldn’t be used for heavy scrubbing because it would pull too much on the connections between the blocks.
The main part of the washcloth is worked in corner to corner crochet. It’s finished off with 2 rounds of single crochet to secure the edges and create a durable finish for the washcloth.

Choose any worsted weight cotton yarn for your C2C heart washcloth. It won’t take much so you can be creative with your color choices. You don’t always need a red heart, right?!
I used KnitPicks “Dishie” for my C2C heart washcloth because I happened to have some in my stash. I highly recommend this yarn for any washcloth projects or anything that needs to be easy care and durable. It’s an inexpensive choice and comes in a wide variety of colors.

Corner to corner crochet
This pattern uses the C2C (corner to corner) construction technique. If you are unfamiliar with this construction, here is a comprehensive tutorial from Make and Do Crew.
In C2C, each block or tile consists of a ch-3 followed by 3 dc. The ch-3 functions much like a regular turning chain except you aren’t turning; you’re simply bringing your hook up to the start of a new block. This ch-3 then becomes the space in which a new block is worked in the next row. Except for the final block of an increase row, the (ch 3, 3 dc) will be followed by a slip st that secures the block you just made to the body of the work.

Pattern Notes
- The construction of this C2C heart washcloth makes it unsuitable for heavy scrubbing because of the gaps in the fabric. Instead, the washcloth is most appropriate for light washing or decorative use only.
- In the first block of each row, you will either increase or decrease. There is no neutral first block in C2C. A decrease simply indicates that you are not making your project any bigger along the decrease edge. The opposite is true for increasing. Visit the tutorial for instructions on increasing and decreasing in C2C.
- While the red is worked in one piece, the white portion will require 1 bobbin in addition to the skein or work from both the inside and outside of the skein once you begin Row 8.
- Make sure all of the yarn ends are on the same side of the square. Once you begin Row 8, you should keep all of the ends behind the piece.
- All odd numbered rows in the chart are read from right to left on the diagonal indicated by this arrow ←
- All even numbered rows in the chart are read from left to right on the diagonal indicated by this arrow →

Notes
- The number of sc worked between each corner is not important as long as your work lays flat. However, because the washcloth is a rectangle, be sure you work the same number of sc on sides that are across from each other.
- A good rule of thumb is to work 2-3 sc into the dc or ch-3 that sits horizontally and a sc in each of the 3 dc for an even edge.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc evenly across to the next corner st, [3 sc in the corner st, sc evenly across to the next corner] 3 times, 3 sc in the next corner st, sc evenly across to first st, join with slip st to beg st.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in the same st and in each st across to middle st of next corner, [3 sc in the middle st of corner, sc in next st and in each st across to middle st of next corner] 3 times, 3 sc in middle st of corner, sc in next st and in each st across to beg st, join with slip st to beg st.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
