A quick, easy baby blanket crochet pattern
Do you love crocheting a baby blanket? Do you have a new baby coming or a baby shower to attend?
The Bits and Bobs Baby Blanket is a fun design combining the traditional granny square and the fun bobble stitch into one square. If you love a traditional granny square and need a last minute baby gift, this handmade blanket is just the ticket!
Inspiration + Design
I absolutely love granny squares…that’s no secret! While I love doing nothing more than crocheting a baby blanket with a granny square (or lots!), I also love to find other crochet elements to combine with the traditional granny square to spice things up.
I’ve known about bobble stitches for a long time. But, I tend to stick to basic stitches and patterns because crochet, for me, is a relaxing activity. However, when I tried the bobble stitch in some face scrubbies I recently designed, I wanted to use the stitch in something else because I loved the added texture of the bobble stitches.
I knew I wanted to use Lion Brand’s “Mandala Baby” because of the stunning color combinations. And, I knew I wanted a lightweight blanket because the blanket would be gifted in the summer.
All of these elements came together to make the Bits and Bobs Baby Blanket! The beautifully shifting color of the yarn and the solid sections that feature bobble stitch give the traditional granny square a bit of pop and pizazz!
About the Pattern
The pattern is written in English using US crochet terminology. It includes a tutorial for the bobble stitch and a crochet chart to show stitch placement between the granny stitch and bobble sections.
Skill level: Confident beginner
Finished size: Approx. 32″ square (although, just by adding sections the blanket can be made larger)
Stitches used: Bobble, chain, double crochet
Hook: US size H-8 (5mm)
Yarn: I love using Lion Brand’s “Mandala Baby” because of its whimsical color combinations. The colors are vibrant with gentle transitions between colors as you work through the cake. The 100% acrylic yarn is soft, easy to launder (just pop it in a laundry bag before machine washing), and it holds up with rough use. The DK weight means the blanket is lightweight and has a beautiful drape.
